The Top 5 of the Beaches on the Island of La Maddalena

Often our guests and friends visiting the archipelago ask us which are the most beautiful beaches located on the island of La Maddalena, which can therefore be reached without having to take the boat or go to Caprera - the island connected by a bridge. Here are our favorites!

#1 - Baia Trinita

  • Why go: the Maddalenini call it Bassa Trinita, and it is a fantastic bay with two main beaches and several other small tongues of sand that are formed according to the tides. The water is shallow for many meters, which makes for breathtaking walks in the turquoise water.

  • To know:

    • often in summer there is a lot of difficulty in finding parking and a place so it is good to come early in the morning

    • the first beach coming from the center is very popular with young people, which can be annoying if you are with your family or if you wants to be relaxed.

    • the second beach is more suited for families with small babies

  • Accesibility

    • difficult to access for those who have difficulty walking

    • difficult to access for strollers

  • What wind is it exposed to: west, mistral, north wind

  • Pro tip: stop at the Trinità kiosk to enjoy the sunset while sipping a local beer, the Ichnusa

  • Address: maps

#2 Spiaggia della Testa del Polpo - Octopus Head Beach

  • Why go: fantastic beach in the north east of La Maddalena suitable for both children and adults.

  • To know: the last stretch of road to get there is very dirt, if you go with a low car or by bike be careful!

  • Accessibility:

  • 50 meters distance from the parking lot to the beach, easy enough to reach even for those who have some difficulty walking, easy for children

  • What wind is it exposed to: it is fairly protected from the west and other winds

  • Pro tip: you can get food and drinks at the nearby CONAD supermarket, as there are no bars near the beach

  • Address: maps

#3 Spiaggia del Morto - The Dead Beach

  • Why go: wide white sand beach with crystal clear sea and lots of space even in high season

  • Da sapere:

    • it is possible to park only in the recesses of the street, otherwise you will be fined by the brigade

    • the recesses are inside the bushes and do not hinder the passage of other cars

    • after days of strong west it often fills with algae, but it is still very beautiful in our opinion

  • Accessibility:

    • from the road to the beach there is a small path that is easy to walk

    • not wheelchair accessible

  • What wind is it exposed to: very exposed to the west

  • Pro tip: visit the sentry box of the dead, the small stone lookout from the First World War, located on the tip of the promontory to the left of the beach

  • Address: maps

#4 Spiaggia di Cala Francese/Carlotto beach

  • Why go: two idyllic beaches located a short distance from the residence and overlooking a fantastic bay, closed to boat traffic by buoys that delimit the bay

  • To know:

    • there is a small dock from which to dive

    • very busy in August, best to go early

    • if there is no place on the beach, the rocks are also fantastic

  • Accessibility:

    • difficult for those with walking difficulties

    • dirt parking 200 meters from the beach, connected by a dirt road to be done on foot uphill

    • not wheelchair accessible

  • What wind is it exposed to: little exposed to the west, exposed to the north-east and south-west wind

  • Consiglio Pro:

    • also visit the Madonna overlooking Spargi for a breathtaking sunset

    • there is a small kiosk in the parking lot where you can eat

  • Address: maps

#5 Spiaggia dello Strangolato -The Hang Man Beach

  • Why to go: small strip of sand surrounded by granite rocks sculpted by the sea and crystal clear water - enjoys the view of the promontory of Monti D'Arena

  • Da sapere:

    • it is possible to park only in the recesses of the street, otherwise you will be fined by the brigade

    • the recesses are inside the bushes and do not hinder the passage of other cars

  • Accessibilità:

    • the beach is accessed directly from the parking lot which is a few meters away

    • wheelchair accessible (with special wheels)
